With its excellent wind resources, the town of Altona is ideally positioned to benefit from a state-wide initiative to get more energy from renewable sources. Noble Environmental Power has built a 97.5 megawatt (MW) windpark using 65 GE 1.5 MW turbines. Over the next 20 years, the Noble Altona Windpark will bring an estimated $75 million to the local economy. On June 17, 2008, Noble held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially mark the start of construction; read about the ceremony in the June/July issue of Noble News - the North Country edition. The Noble Altona Windpark provides the following clean energy and economic benefits to the community of Altona, Clinton County, and the Northern Adirondack schools:
