Wind Speed Maps

There are three factors that are very important when evaluating whether a given location is suitable for hosting a windpark:

  • The compatibility of a windpark with local land use.
  • Access to transmission lines.
  • The available wind resource.

Wind developers use wind speed measurements and highly sophisticated computer models to evaluate potential sites, but wind speed maps are a good indicator of where the most viable wind resources are located.
